Investiture for Circuit Judge Christopher Schmidt Feb. 10 in Bay St. Louis

An investiture ceremony for Circuit Judge Christopher L. Schmidt is scheduled for 3 p.m. Feb. 10 at the Hancock County Courthouse in Bay St. Louis. The public is invited.

Judge Schmidt took the oath of office on Dec. 22 and began hearing cases in January in the Second Circuit District of Hancock, Harrison and Stone counties. It is traditional to take the oath again during an investiture ceremony. Chancery Judge Carter Bise will administer the ceremonial oath.

Retired District Attorney Cono Caranna will be the guest speaker. Judge Schmidt worked as an assistant district attorney with Caranna for 14 years, returning to private law practice in 2010. Judge Schmidt was elected in November 2014 to the position previously held by Judge John C. Gargiulo. Judge Gargiulo was appointed Aug. 1, 2014, as a U.S. Magistrate Judge for the Southern District of Mississippi.

Judge Schmidt earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1992 and a law degree from the University of Mississippi in 1995. The Pass Christian resident is married to Jennifer Schmidt. They have three children.
